Yum Jung Ah, Won Jin Ah, Choi Young Joon, And Dex’s New Drama Confirms Premiere Date

ENA’s upcoming drama “The Defects” has unveiled its premiere date!

Based on a popular webtoon, “The Defects” is an action thriller about children who have been abandoned by their adoptive parents—and their fight for survival and revenge. The drama is directed by Oh Gi Hwan and written by Ahn So Jung.

Yum Jung Ah will portray Kim Se Hee, the chair of a major hospital and head of a charitable foundation. On the surface, she is a respected celebrity doctor, but behind closed doors, she leads an illegal adoption and child trafficking ring. Driven by a warped belief that only superior genes deserve to survive, she oversees the dark and disturbing operation.

In this role, Yum Jung Ah is expected to captivate viewers with a bold and provocative character unlike any she has taken on before.

Won Jin Ah will star as Kim Ah Hyun, a girl who was returned after being adopted but survived against all odds. As the leader and emotional anchor of the surviving children, Ah Hyun fights fiercely for revenge and survival—only to confront an unexpected truth along the way.

This drama marks Won Jin Ah’s first foray into the action genre, where she is expected to showcase a bold, fearless side that stands apart from her previous roles.

Choi Young Joon will play Woo Tae Sik, a subordinate in the trafficking ring who secretly rescues and protects children who have been returned. Plagued by guilt over his involvement, he dedicates himself to shielding the children and teaching them how to survive.

Known for his compelling performances across a wide range of roles, Choi Young Joon is expected to bring emotional depth and a commanding presence to the series.

Dex will portray Jung Hyun, a human weapon raised by Kim Se Hee and the de facto operator of the illegal ring. Jung Hyun obeys Se Hee’s commands without question and is expected to drive much of the show’s tension as he manages the organization from behind the scenes.

As a rising star, Dex’s on-screen chemistry with veteran actress Yum Jung Ah is expected to be one of the series’ standout elements.

A behind-the-scenes look at the script reading session revealed strong chemistry among the cast. Yum Jung Ah commanded the room with her presence, delivering even a single line with subtle, layered emotion that set the tone for the session.

The rest of the cast also impressed, fully immersing themselves in their roles with emotionally rich performances that added depth and intensity to the atmosphere.

After the reading, Yum Jung Ah shared, “Everyone came so well-prepared that I thought, ‘As long as I do my part well, we’ll be in good shape.’ This project combines thrilling action with suspense, so I hope it receives lots of love and attention.”

Won Jin Ah added, “I think the story will give viewers plenty to reflect on. Everyone is putting in a lot of effort, so I hope you enjoy watching it.”

“The Defects” is set to premiere on July 21 at 10 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
